CHS Valve Re-facing on Formula One Standard Equipment … the Serdi valve re-facing machine, a revolutionary technology delivering positive results. For 15 years, Serdi has been on the leading edge of technology – leading the world in the evolution of traditional cylinder head techniques. A World leader today, a World leader in the future in the future!
Our Serdi range of machines have expanded to include a new concept in valve re-facing – the Serdi 2. A valve re-facer worthy of the name Serdi … perfection is possible.
What makes the Serdi II different from other valve re-face is Serdi’s patented technology. The valve is machined in a vertical position and rotated in a centreless support using roller bearings and frictionless V pads. The valve rotation is achieved through a frictional linkage between the valve fire face (combustion chamber side) and the Serdi 2’s driving motor. This technology allows a constant torque valve rotation for small or large stem valves.
In most machines, the valve is rotated by the stem through a chuck, collet or centreless system where torque is only a function of the valve system diameter. In other words, the smaller the valve stem … the less torque that can be transmitted and the risk of slip is always present. Variation in torque results in inconsistent surface finish. Especially important for narrow stem valves.
The friction pad that drives the valve prevents valve deflection which occurs in the “stem driven” valve re-facers that most head shops and manufacturers use. This is also absorbs the vibration that occur during grinding … resulting in a fast and precise finish. At The Cylinder Head Shop, we recommend this hand finishing of other aftermarket and OEM manufacturers to ensure the highest accuracy of angle and face finishing, essential for sports engines when working to the precision we work and fundamental for road applications where longevity is important.
Do it right and it will not need to be done again or so regularly. This is one of the prime ingredient in our high mileage heads which last two to three times the miles one would expect from a STD OEM head. Racers that last three seasons and still do not require re-manufacturing, old classic that return 50,000 on the clock and still have less than factory recommended tolerances!
Precise stem tip grinding and rocker arm refacing.
A Unique Valve Clamping System.
1. Clamping system for all length
2. Frictionless V pads air clamp mounted
3. Fully adjustable precise positioning
4. All stem diameter sizing centred
5. Driving pad on valve fire face
6. High precision diamond dressing
7. Highly accurate face height adjuster
8. LED speed control display
9. Digital angle display accurate within 1′ of a degree
The system is so accurate that it enables valve grinding of the utmost standards, necessary for today’s modern and high performance engines, especially mutli-valve heads with small stem sizes.
Additional Features
Clamping pressure varies according to stem diameter.
The adjustable stop ensures precise valve positioning and keeps all stem distances the same.
Vertical pressure is accurate again to stem size.
Diamond dressing of valve face not stone as is usual.
Higher rigidity of mounting offers greater grinding precision and quality.
Microprocessor management of all functions to ensure regularity time and time again.
Operator does not need to lean but works from standing position removing human variability.
User friendly, pneumatic controls, little hand motion again removes human variability.
Designed for use over several decades of service, keeps precision features throughout. No periodical lubrication, many parts maintenance free, water and wear resistant.
Active cooling system, air regulated filter and oiling system. Top quality components.
Linear diamond dresser, Glyco bearings all round.
As the accuracy of the angle of the valve face is crucial to match the angle of the valve seats, equivalent standards must be applied to both processes. As matched accuracy is responsible for increased longevity and performance, it is essential to use a matching suite of equipment. There are other manufacturers that are good, Newen for example have their good points … and it is possible for experts to do excellent work by hand on simple machinery … but it requires something special to produce excellent work consistently time and time again.
It is this, in our opinion, that the Serdi System does best.
